One of the most difficult tasks in life as we look at our career is deciding which path to take. There are so many options and so many people along the way to offer helpful advise as to what we should be doing. However, to make change and take a journey the destination had to be of our own design. Have you even gone on a long car trip that someone else has planned? You are willing to go along for the ride but you are not invested in the outcome.
I have always been told to do what you are passioned about in life. This seems to stump most of us because we feel what we are passion about has nothing to do with making a living or having successful career. You may say, "I know what I don't want to do...I don't want to be in an office all day!" However, you do enjoy the outdoors, gardening or walking in the park. Let your imagination expand that to working in a nursery, building your own landscape business, starting a personal training business with a group of walkers. Let your life style and your creativity define your passion.
Finally, get out the pen and paper. Decide where you want to be in a year, five years and ten years. This does not have to involve a degree in account. Just simple write down your objectives for your life. For example, "I want to be work full time, making X amount every month and enjoy what I am doing."
In the next posting, I will give you some direction for clarifing your goals and visualizing them.
