What I Hope to Achieve...

One of the most difficult tasks in life as we look at our career is deciding which path to take. There are so many options and so many people along the way to offer helpful advise as to what we should be doing. However, to make change and take a journey the destination had to be of our own design. Have you even gone on a long car trip that someone else has planned? You are willing to go along for the ride but you are not invested in the outcome.

I have always been told to do what you are passioned about in life. This seems to stump most of us because we feel what we are passion about has nothing to do with making a living or having successful career. You may say, "I know what I don't want to do...I don't want to be in an office all day!" However, you do enjoy the outdoors, gardening or walking in the park. Let your imagination expand that to working in a nursery, building your own landscape business, starting a personal training business with a group of walkers. Let your life style and your creativity define your passion.

Finally, get out the pen and paper. Decide where you want to be in a year, five years and ten years. This does not have to involve a degree in account. Just simple write down your objectives for your life. For example, "I want to be work full time, making X amount every month and enjoy what I am doing."

In the next posting, I will give you some direction for clarifing your goals and visualizing them.

Where to go from here...

Whether you are just graduating college, starting a second or third career, returning to work force or recently forced out by the job market you wonder, "Where to go from here..." This can be scary if you force yourself into the decision before you are well informed or prepared for change. Sometimes we make a career move or a life style change quickly due to real pressing issues such as financial responsibilities, relocation needs or family needs. However, many times we look at these opportunity to make a change unrealistically because we put undue pressure on herselves with imaginary deadlines.

For this reason, I suggest that you look closely at your decision making process and before building up undue anxiety give yourself the opportunity to look outside your box. Let yourself entertain ideas that you have previously pushed to the background because of your former position. Avoid the tendency to limit yourself, downplay your skills or narrow your focus during this period of contemplation.

By seeking out challenging avenues to pursue you will build up your muscle that helps you discover hidden talents, forgotten dreams and your own advertureous side.

In the next addition, I will help you determine through a easy exercise that will help you to determine where the future will take you!

Vickie's Blog

Vickie's Blog: "What I Am Learning & What I Still Need to Learn!

As I get ever closer to the dreaded senior citizen years, I find that my thirst for learning and reaching my goals has been exaggerated. I can only compare it to a biological clock because as I realize that my time is running out and I have many unfinished dreams.

Working with clients in therapy, I see many people who struggle with realizing their potential because they have been told all their lives either that they would not amount to anything or they have never experienced anything better. Another segment of my clients realizes that a better quality of life is possible however, due to addiction, childhood trauma, health or mental illness they have not been able to reach their goals. While many other clients just simply need the motivation to set goals, design a strategy to reach their goals and a coach, mentor or partner to help them on their journey.

Over the next few weeks, I will provide some direction and steps to help you discover what you hope to achieve, visualize your goals, set obtainable goals and design your life strategy for success. You will gain the mindset that you deserve your dreams, learn how to get a support team, gain support, remove roadblocks, place markers and avoid detours. Finally, you will gain momentum, celebrate your success and learn how to maintain the changes so you can enjoy reaching your stars."
